Furniture worth keeping

Upholstria is an upholstery workshop. We rebuild sofas, chairs and sala sets that are worth saving, and make new ones for people who want something built to fit rather than something pulled off a showroom floor.

Why we do this

Most furniture isn't replaced because it's broken. It's replaced because re-covering it sounds like more trouble than buying new. That's usually backwards. A solid frame outlasts its fabric several times over, and the piece already sitting in your living room was chosen for a reason — it fits the space, it suits the room, and they may not make it any more. We started Upholstria to make keeping it the easier choice.

The frame comes first

Before any fabric is chosen, the piece is stripped back to the frame. Loose joints are re-glued and re-pinned, broken springs re-tied, and foam that has lost its shape replaced. New fabric over a failing frame looks right for a season and then sags. We would rather tell you that up front than take the job.

Made by hand, on the piece

Tufting, piping, welting and button work are done by hand, on the actual furniture rather than to a flat pattern. It takes longer. It is also the difference between a cover that fits and a cover that merely covers — corners that sit tight, curves that hold their line, seams that follow the frame instead of fighting it.

Fabric chosen for how you live

Pets, sunlight, small children and daily use all wear fabric differently. We'll show you the options in person and say plainly which will still look right in a few years and which won't — including when the cheaper roll is the smarter buy.

How it works

  1. Send photos

Message us pictures of the piece and tell us what's wrong with it. You'll get an honest read on whether it's worth restoring.

  2. See the fabric

Go through the material options in person, so you can feel the weight and the weave before committing to anything.

  3. Stripped to the frame

The old covering comes off. Joints, springs and foam are repaired or replaced as needed.

  4. Rebuilt and covered

Fresh padding, then fabric cut and fitted to the piece by hand and stitched in place.

  5. Back in your home

We deliver it, put it where it belongs, and make sure it sits the way it should.

What we stand by

  • Honest assessments

Including when the answer is that a piece isn't worth saving.

  • Structure before surface

Frame, springs and foam are sorted before anything is chosen to go over them.

  • Nothing hidden

You'll know what's being replaced, what's being kept, and what it costs before work starts.

  • Your call, not ours

We'll give you our opinion and the reasons behind it. The decision stays yours.
